Company Profile
Spectrum5 Racing provides design services and
products to the racing community.
Dr. David Dobson, a co-founder of Spectrum5
Racing, is a leading researcher receiving International recognition in circa
2000 with the award of the Klein Prize in Mathematics for solutions in wave
propagation and non-linear optimization problems. The other co-founder,
Kurt Dobson is an entrepreneur and engineer with significant experience
in data-acquisition, modeling and simulation. Both brothers are absolute
car-nuts, so please see the photo area to see some of the current race-cars in
the stable and some of the projects we've done.
W. Kurt
Dobson is a co-founder of Spectrum5 Racing. Kurt’s research interests include signal
processing, neural networks, wavelet mathematics, nonlinear optimization, and of
course, racing. Mr. Dobson's career included positions as Vice President
of New Business Initiatives,
Advanced Development for U.S. Robotics and 3COM Corporation and was
responsible for core technology development for emerging markets in broadband,
wireless, home networking and chaired the
U.S. and
International patent committees. He
has authored 52 patents and many articles in the high-technology field and has
consulted for several prominent Venture Capital firms. Mr. Dobson was awarded the IEEE
Engineer of the Year award in 1998 by the IEEE Utah Chapter and was also
nominated for Utah Engineer of the Year by the Utah Engineering Society the same
year. He has also provided the seed
capital for Spectrum5 as well as SiliconOptics, another startup company
(www.siliconoptics.com). Mr. Dobson also serves as an Adjunct Professor in
the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Utah, and also sits
on the Board of the Centers of Excellence at Utah State University.
David Dobson
is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of
Utah, and is also co-founder of Spectrum5 Racing and the brothers other
high-tech company, SiliconOptics, Inc. His research interests cover a wide
range of topics in applied mathematics including optimal design, inverse
problems, non-linear optimization, electromagnetics, and photonic device
modeling. Dr. Dobson has
distinguished himself in the field of Applied Mathematics, including several
National and International Awards:
·
Felix Klein Prize, European Mathematical Society, 2000.
·
Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, 1997-1999.
·
NSF Mathematical Sciences Postdoctoral Research Fellowship,
1992-1995.
Spectrum5 Racing is one of the few companies in
the racing industry with significant new innovations and technologies that can
be applied to race engine development.
Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, home of the 2002 Winter
Olympics, we are a privately funded development stage company. Salt
Lake City is also the home of Chapman Racing Heads and Dr.
Gas. Both companies are nationally recognized suppliers to the racing
industry. You can visit their web pages at: http://www.chapmanracingheads.com/
